Madam, - While our TDs were enjoying their extra week holidays, they would have done well to read Brian Boyd's excellent article (Weekend, November 1st) on the extraordinary new EU copyright legislation.
The new "law"' will fundamentally intrude on citizens' personal rights and could well conflict with the Constitution. By what right can a private company infect a citizen's private computer with a "cookie" to monitor the use of the computer and then "enter" a private home and seize their computer alleging "illegal" use to download music.
Although I am very positive about the EU, I am increasingly of the view that developments such as this legislation will lead to rejection by the Irish people of the new EU Constitution next summer. - Yours, etc.,
DESMOND WHITE, Beaufort Downs, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14.
