Madam, – As Gazprom tightens its grip on Europe’s gas supply and the Corrib gas project is far away from resolution, is it not ironic that our Government is promoting gas usage through the new housing energy grants?
One wonders whether, in a few years’ time we will have to forsake gas (a CO2 producer) in favour of electricity. In this regard are we going to adopt an Irish solution to an Irish problem: the importation of nuclear energy through the interconnector? Or should we be realistic and produce our own nuclear energy? Now that we are experiencing an economic crisis due to poor financial management, should we not do all in our power to avoid an energy crisis?
Therefore should we not at least consider and debate nuclear energy? Perhaps we could have a plebiscite on the matter to coincide with the new Lisbon treaty referendum in October? – Yours, etc,
