Sir, - You can tall a lot about people's true principles by watching them under pressure. This occurred to me as I drove to work through the Dublin West by election.
Normally, the political parties bombard us with "politically correct" statements about women. On paper they are all wonderfully dedicated to improving the status of women. However, under pressure all of this goes out the window.
I see from The Irish Times that there are 13 candidates in the by election in Dublin. Twelve of them are men. Nor surprisingly, it is Mary Harney's party which has the only female candidate.
Anybody can prepare a nice menu. It's when the food arrives on the table that you can judge the cook. - Yours, etc.,
