Sir, - The former Dublin city councillor, Sadbh O'Neill (January 15th) expresses surprise that I might consider that her organisation has a political bias. Given that the party she once represented has such an internal variance of political views, depending on the audience, it would be deeply unfair to suggest that it was even political at all.Instead of writing letters to The Irish Times that are clearly inaccurate, she might actually read the Draft City Development Plan, particularly as it relates to the Southern Port Access Route. The route does not go through any residential areas. It does link into the Northern Port Route. It will deliver a reduction in traffic levels and pollution in the inner city. It is the statement regarding public transport that is most offensive and wrong. On every possible occasion I have supported public transport, quality bus corridors and the provision of cycle lanes. That is, of course, the way forward. However, even Earthwatch must know that you cannot carry a 30-foot container on the back of your bicycle.Of course Ms O'Neill had a voice on the city council, which she chose to give up. Obviously it is easier to hurl from the sidelines. - Yours, etc.,Cllr Dermot Lacey,Beech Hill Drive,Donnybrook,Dublin 4.
