Sir, – Robert A Sharpe upbraids the IRFU for not supporting Ulster’s request to have their Heineken Cup game against Munster on any day other than Easter Sunday. (January 30th) I am in total agreement with Mr Sharpe. Respect for the Sabbath is very strong among the Ulster majority and Easter is the most important feast in the Christian calendar.

Surely some accommodation could have been made? Unlike their soccer brethren, the Ulster Branch have remained loyal to the IRFU and to the concept of an all- island rugby team.

Yet there seems to be no sympathy for the sensitivity of their players and supporters who deserve some recognition of their fidelity. – Yours, etc,
