Sir, – I find it shocking that AIB is introducing a stipulation that you must maintain at least €2,500 in your current account in order to qualify for free banking.
Once again, as with the unfair household charge, those who are less well off are being disproportionately penalised by this move, and as such are having their purchasing power in the economy reduced.
What is all the more shocking is the silent response of the Government on this matter. This Government has a moral duty to respond on two fronts: as the majority stakeholder in this bank and more importantly, as the democratically elected stakeholder of decision- making in this country. – Yours, etc,
