Sir, - It would seem to me that the DUP and in particular Mr Ian Paisley have in the past obstructed and/or refused to attend talks with anyone they believed to be involved in violent means to attain their ends, with the exception of any party with similar ends to that of the DUP.
However, at the DUP party conference, when referring to the broken leg received by Mr Martin McGuinness of Sinn Fein during a football match. I was horrified that Mr Peter Robinson exclaimed that he wished Mr McGuinness had broken his neck and "that would be a punishment beating gone right". Maybe Mr Robinson could explain how this train of thought could be considered non-violent.
Insensitive comments like this are heinous, unhelpful and hypocritical. In fact reading reports of the party conference, it seemed more like a shooting gallery than a conference. I think it's about time that the DUP grew up and behaved like adults, or else dissolved. - Yours, etc.,
Robert McCann,
