Madam, - The geography of Dundrum illustrates the shift evident in social values.
At one end of the village, the old Dundrum shopping centre answered one's need for something you needed. Whereas, at the other end, the new Town Centre is more about the gratification of buying the things you don't need.
Appropriately enough, both are located on either side of the Dundrum Catholic Church. It is a source of sadness to me to witness shoppers in their droves pass by the church oblivious to the Real Presence inside, who offers free therapy rather than the retail therapy offered by the cathedral of the new religion that is Ireland of the 21st century. - Yours, etc.,
SEÁN O'REILLY, Belmont, Sandyford Road, Dublin 16.
