Sir, Following the concern expressed by Dun Laoghaire commercial interests, the sailing community and other harbour users at their lack of representation on the newly appointed Harbour Board, the Dun Laoghaire Association of An Taisce feels obliged to voice its own protest.

Recent and pending developments in and around the harbour raise numerous and significant environmental issues, repeatedly identified by An Taisce. These require to be addressed pro actively by a management team which includes appropriate environmentalist representation. Denied the opportunity to contribute initially, environmentalists will be restricted to a reactive response to any created damage which could and should have been anticipated and avoided at Board planning level.

Dun Laoghaire harbour is a major national resource and its environmental welfare should be a matter of official representation if only to show tangible evidence of the oft expressed political concern for environmental issues. Yours, etc.,

Chairman,
