Sir, - I see that Noel Carroll, the chief executive of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, is now being wheeled out to support the Dublin Port Tunnel. He seems to be very concerned about the health of the city in his letter (December 12th).

Perhaps somebody should tell Mr Carroll that if this tunnel goes ahead, there will be a 39 per cent increase in traffic on the East Wall road. There will be a massive increase in the levels of nitrogen dioxide near the Portals. There is also a major fault zone running across the Fairview end of the chosen route.

These are just a few of the concerns about the tunnel. It's about time Mr Carroll came into the real world, and put people before commerce. - Yours, etc.,
