Sir, - With reference to your news report (July 30th) that CIE seeks bus and rail fare increase of 10 per cent, could I ask if this is in addition to the minimum increase of over 10 per cent that Dublin Bus has already imposed on long existing 66X and 67X City Speed services since the end of June, under the guise of "introducing new bus services for Maynooth, Celbridge, Lucan and Leixlip"?

On a related topic, Garret FitzGerald's article in the same paper prompts me to remark on the number of times at peak hours that Dublin buses fail to stop to pick up passengers, despite the fact that the maximum number allowed to stand has not been reached. If you are fortunate to be on such buses, you will be able to observe that there are generally unoccupied seats upstairs. The idea of 140 passengers standing in an LRT vehicle seems incredible.
