Sir, - Why is the Government doing nothing to help hardpressed commuters during the strike? I lived in London during the Tube strikes of 1989, and although there was utter chaos in the city, the Government tried to alleviate the problem by turning Hyde Park into a giant car-park. Why doesn't the Irish government take a leaf out of that book and use the Phoenix Park and the RDS, as at Christmas time? It could also draft the Army in to bus commuters from these points to the city centre. Maybe this would help to relieve at least some of the traffic coming into the city centre. - Yours, etc..,
