Sir, - In May 1995, while the Croat troops were murdering Serb civilian refugees fleeing from West Slavonia, in retaliation, Krajina Serbs fired three rockets at Zagreb, killing five people. While no action was taken by the West against Croatia, the Krajina Serb President, Mr Martic, has been indicted for war crimes at the Hague Tribunal.
In the autumn of 1995, a bomb exploded in a Sarajevo market killing six people. Despite overwhelming expert military evidence that the shell was fired by the Muslim forces, Bosnian Serbs were blamed, and an extensive NATO bombing campaign was carried out against the Bosnian Serb military and civilian targets.
Faced with the shelling of the UN base at Qana by the Israeli army, and the deaths of dozens of civilians, the reaction from the US is: "US diplomats yesterday stepped up their frantic negotiations with Israel, Syria and Lebanon to bring about a ceasefire" (The Irish Times, April 19th).
Such US reaction, and indeed the reaction of the EU, illustrate clearly the double standards applied to different conflicts by the powers of the "New World Order". In pointing to these double standards, I do not advocate, nor would I wish that the people of Israel should suffer the fate of the Krajina and Bosnian Serbs. - etc.,
