Sir, - I would like to heartily endorse Kevin Myer's comments (An Irishman's Diary, July 23rd) on the leading role which the actress Fedelma Cullen played in the life of the late Donal McCann. As Mr Myers rightly points out, without Fedelma's long-term commitment to Donal's health and wellbeing we would not have had those towering performances to remember him by. I was not alone in being immensely disturbed that there was no acknowledgement whatsoever of her love and devotion on the day he was laid to rest. Max Stafford-Clark, who directed Donal's last great stage performance in The Steward of Christendom, was equally troubled by what appeared to many of us to be a sad and glaring omission on such a very public occasion. I am indeed grateful to Mr Myers for going some way to redress the balance. - Yours, etc.,
