Madam, – Of the remaining seven public holidays this year, four are named (at least colloquially) after the institutions which have brought this country to its current state of despair. Many other countries name their public holidays in honour of the great events and people who helped to shape the nation.

Surely it is time that “bank holidays” are renamed to reflect the many great Irish people, and historical events which make this country great?
