Sir, - On the front page of your edition of August 2nd was a picture of a father, Mr Michael Brett, carrying the coffin of his son Gavin from their home in Co Antrim.
I am sure The Irish Times published the picture with all the best intentions, anxious to make a statement about the latest horrific attack in the North. But something didn't feel quite right. This photograph is guilty of freezing the private tears of a person trying to cope with the most difficult moment of his life - and of consigning this moment to volatile paper destined to protect shiny wooden floors during Sunday household decorations. - Yours, etc.,
Susanna Caprara, The Donahies, Donaghmede, Dublin 13.
