Sir, - I hear that digital television will enable 200 programmes to be available. This would be a disaster for young, developing minds. Our youth should be fishing from Dun Laoghaire pier or climbing Lugnaquilla.

The State strives to control drug addiction. I would hope that an equal effort would be made to limit television addiction. We older folk were not subjected to these unnatural influences, although alcohol was around before the marriage at Cana.

Besides, the film-actors in general are a volatile lot. They should not play a major role in the development of our youth. Film directors and producers should take note. Film stars in general are incapable of leading a normal family life. There are a few exceptions - Bing Crosby comes to mind.
