Sir, - I was not surprised, just disappointed, at the letter of the Turkish Ambassador, Mr Murat Ersavci, (December 2nd). We have the misfortune of constantly being part of their palette of victims, but we will never give in even if we have to die in the ditches.
As it is futile to argue, I would only say that, nonetheless, I dream of the day when he and the military-political establishment of Turkey will substitute for their nazi-type propaganda, the painful pursuit of historic truth; for the arrogant crashing of peoples, values and ideals, the pursuit of justice, rule of law, human rights, democracy and respect of international legality.
Then they would claim a place in the European civilisation, the Cyprus problem will have a chance to find a just and viable solution and their people will blossom and prosper. Then the curse of having them as neighbours might change into a blessing. One should not lose hope. - Yours, etc., Andreas D. Mavroyiannis,
Ambassador of Cyprus, Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2.
