Dawkins In Dublin

Sir, - Richard Dawkins spoke in Dublin on Tuesday, November 10th. In response to the only question of the night directed at his apparent dismissal of the existence of God, he said: "Science has nothing to learn from religion and neither does anyone else." In his book The Blind Watchmaker he makes a case for the non-existence of God. It was with this in mind that I was surprised how partisan the audience were. Are there no theologians out there who would or could challenge this man's perceptions? Or is it indicative of the waning influence of the Christian church on this island that an atheist of such renown and persuasion can come to speak in Dublin without a single member of the audience to carry the flag for the Church? - Yours, etc., Eric Masterson,
