Madam, – I wish to congratulate Orla Tinsley on her relentless efforts to improve facilities for cystic fibrosis patients in Ireland.
As a parent of an 18-year-old daughter who suffers from cystic fibrosis, I must respond to the decision of the HSE to yet again postpone the building of the new cystic fibrosis patient facility at St Vincent’s Hospital.
As far as I can see the Government is using the downturn in the economy as an excuse not to fulfil its promise to people suffering with cystic fibrosis and this will continue to happen until the people of Ireland stand up and are listened to.
To listen to Orla Tinsley on Liveline and to hear the disappointment in her voice was heartbreaking.
All cystic fibrosis patients want is a hygienic facility in which to be looked after when they need it most.
When will the HSE realise that time does not stand still for cystic fibrosis patients? They need the new unit and they need it now. 2011 will be too late for too many. It is simply not good enough. – Yours, etc,
