Cuts to private school subsidies

Sir, – If, as Hugh Lavery (October 13th) states, “fee-paying parents are subsidising the State”, would it not be more efficient…

Sir, – If, as Hugh Lavery (October 13th) states, “fee-paying parents are subsidising the State”, would it not be more efficient and surely more equitable, if all fees collected by private schools were placed in a central fund to be distributed among the most deserving schools?

This would ensure that more cynical observers, myself included, would not assume that such fee- paying parents were, in fact, furthering their own and not the State’s interests. – Yours, etc,
