Sir, – The news that bonuses for bankers are to be curbed is to be welcomed (Breaking News, February 28th).

Sir, – The news that bonuses for bankers are to be curbed is to be welcomed (Breaking News, February 28th).

The reaction of the Tory elite merely reflects their core values of protecting corporate financiers.

However, what is more interesting is the contrast with the cuts being imposed on public service workers and what each group brings to society.

One group creates massive corporate profits by encouraging citizens to load up on credit, plays monopoly with their savings and then through unregulated greed gets bailed out through the imposition of austerity on these same citizens. Where is the risk in that?

The other struggles through antiquated work practices and systems to provide social services to the most vulnerable in society, is encouraged to get on the property ladder to keep a bubble inflated and then is squeezed dry to pay for the mistakes of others.

Relatively speaking the restrictions on bonuses will not cause a huge burden to bankers, while the cuts to public service will surely push more citizens into penury. – Yours, etc,
