Sir, – I would like to correct an erroneous statement regarding the Dukan diet in (“The high price of weight loss”, PriceWatch, October 17th). Fiona Reddan states that “the food and supplements that are eaten while on it can add up.”
As a contented follower of the Dukan diet, I can assure readers that there are no specialist food requirements apart from oat bran (€1.78 per bag in a leading supermarket). The diet consists of eggs, meat, vegetables, and the odd oat bran muffin; your grocery bill will shrink as you no longer buy processed food. It is recommended you take a vitamin supplement (€5 for a monthly supply of generic multi-vitamins). Along with the €10 book, that’s a set-up fee of €16.78 – which compares favourably with the pre-made food and ongoing membership fees charged by leading slimming companies. The appeal of Dukan, for me, is that you can cook (yes, I know, actually use a pot!) healthy, inexpensive, fresh food yourself. – Is mise,
