Sir, – I have concerns about the Minister for Health’s plan and enforcement of calorie menu labelling (Home News, July 5th). I would like to see evidence that this will help in the fight against obesity before I blow €5,000-plus on something that may not work. A study by Brian Elbel at New York University School of Medicine indicates that it does not.
I also worry for my business and six staff and other food businesses. I am concerned about the obesity problem. I am a qualified diet chef and know all about nutrition. I also know education is the only tool to use in this war.
Healthy, well-made food is not the culprit here and I see this as being another e-voting machine fiasco, with restaurants and food businesses being dumped. As an artisan food producer, I fear for my survival. – Yours, etc,
