Sir, - Michael Tansey (January 30th) writes that his diploma from Cork RTC has been downgraded as a result of the upgrading of Waterford College. What curious, logic! This is like a man who. thinks his house is getting smaller because his neighbour builds an, extension.
The diplomas, certificates and degrees from Cork RTC, and from all the other RTCs, are awarded by the NCEA. As one of their external examiners, I know that the NCEA take considerable pains to ensure a uniform standard throughout the country. The standard of Mr Tansey's diploma is precisely set and will not diminish, whatever comes out of Waterford. I don't know whether the new look Waterford Institute will be making their awards through the NCEA elsewhere, but in any case, a diploma is a diploma is a diploma. - Yours, etc.,
