A Chara, - In his "Letter from Torun" (October 5th), Daniel McLaughlin trots out the old canard of the Catholic Church's opposition to Copernicus's heliocentric theories.
There was no condemnation from the Church. His book was dedicated to Pope Paul III, and in 1536, Copernicus received a letter from Cardinal von Schönbern which stated: "Therefore with the utmost earnestness I entreat you, most learned sir, unless I inconvenience you, to communicate this discovery of yours to scholars". - Is mise,
