Sir, - Exactly what aspect of the city's Viking origins do Temple Bar Properties (June 5th) intend to resolve with a Department of the Environment funded "public dig" at Wood Quay?
For most Dubliners the outstanding matter still to be addressed here is how the original Wood Quay debacle might be minimised. Full excavation of all available open space now, together with a proper civic museum at the location, would partially undo the damage done in the 1970s.
Certainly the idea of labelling the area of the West End of Temple Bar, excavating a small portion of it and driving piles through in situ archaeological remains so that yet more apartments can be built compound the original errors. - Yours, etc.,
(Alderman)
