On entering the main doors of St Mary's and St Ann's, Cork City, you come in contact with a large walled-in baptismal space and there is no evidence of the tabernacle. What we used to know as the high altar has gone and has been replaced by a large bishop's chair.

The cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow, has also been forced to accept the re-ordering of its sanctuary.

We now know that the scenario and hype surrounding the dismantling of sanctuaries has taken place in the absence of any permission whatsoever.

Vatican II did not suggest that a single change should be made in any sanctuary in the world. We would request those who are proposing the alterations to Cobh Cathedral to write to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinhger, who will confirm what Vatican II has to say on the subject, before they engage in irrevocable changes which will cause immense distress to a great number of people.

The re-ordering of churches ignites powerful emotions in people and unwanted changes have destroyed the unity of local churches and parishes. - Yours, etc.,
