Madam, - Despite the improvements to Dublin city centre in recent years, the Liffey remains an eyesore at low tide. Mud, trolleys and rubbish of all kinds are visible as visitors and others leave Heuston station and cross the river.

Belfast Corporation solved a similar problem in the Lagan a number of years ago by constructing a barrier that keeps the river at a level that covers the debris.

I would suggestthismay bea better way of using scarce capital funds than the planned destruction of St Stephen's Green.
