Madam, – On a recent vacation to Dublin, I was very surprised at the lack of cleanliness in washrooms, both  in restaurants and public street areas.

It was awful. Smelly and filthy.

With the World Health Organisation issuing warnings on H1N1, and many more diseases, and on how important safety and cleanliness is, it was a eye-opener to see that Ireland is way below standard on these issues.

Why is this? Several years ago during the  “Mad Cow” outbreak, Ireland was considered one of the safest countries because of the strict health and safely rules they had in force.

If you can do it for the animals, why not for the people?

I was in Carrick-on-Shannon last year and the facilities at the marina were spotless, and I hope they still are. Follow their example. You want your tourists back? Start cleaning up.
