Sir, - Last Friday evening immediately after work I went for some drinks. I did not drive home. Last Saturday for my good sense I paid £65 to have my car unclamped.
I was delighted to know that the clamping officials gave me a warning at 9.10 on Saturday morning and clamped my car at 9.45. This car was not causing any obstruction and there were many car park spaces available in the area. In short, I had technically violated the law but had not caused difficulty to anyone. Many other cars like mine were clamped. A profitable morning's work.
It seems to me that people who go for a drink after work are being encouraged to drink-drive as opposed to paying the £65 parking fee which is now being habitually charged to those who park overnight in areas outside the city centre rather than drink-drive. Happy Christmas party season to the clampers. - Yours, etc., Michael D. Fitzsimons,
