Sir, – In the current crisis the banks have shown their true colours

Sir, – In the current crisis the banks have shown their true colours. They have continued to act in an arrogant and greedy manner. I do not believe this will change. Therefore it is essential that legislation is enacted immediately to curb their excesses.

We need to return to the two basic branches of banking – “High Street” and “Commercial”. The legislation needs to ensure that one branch of the system cannot share finances with the other. Only then can we return to long term stability.
