Sir, - I find it hard to believe that the present government has difficulty in passing the necessary legislation to ensure that candidates for local, national and European elections should prove to the electors that they live within the law of the State by paying their taxes.
As a small trader I find that to do business amounting to more than £5,000 with any organisation which is in receipt of government (taxpayers') funding, I must produce a tax clearance certificate.
I therefore now state that if any candidate wishes to get my vote they must put up in public view a tax clearance certificate in their local electoral station. - Yours, etc. Paddy Macaulay,
