Sir, – At our annual general meeting on May 16th, family lawyer Marion Campbell explained how the Civil Partnership Act affects both same-sex couples and cohabitees. The Act centres on new reforms for same-sex and cohabiting couples but avoids dealing with guardianship, custody and access of children.
This is a major omission in the legislation. It would appear to AIM that the focus of this legislation centres on the relationship of two people disconnected from children.
There have been many calls for the review of this part of the Act and we wish to add to this appeal to legislators to give children the rights they deserve in these relationships. – Yours, etc,
