Madam, – A few months ago some national newspapers kindly published my letter calling for the setting up of a new Irish political party to replace Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.

If a general election was called tomorrow morning there are very few existing politicians we could have any real faith in.  We, the people of Ireland, have no confidence in their ability to solve the present economic crisis and also we would have very little confidence in the present opposition or its leadership.  As a result of the excellent response to that letter a large meeting is taking place in Kettler’s Hotel, Kilkenny on July 21st at 8pm.

The people look upon this tired leaderless Government with distain and anger.   A Government only in name. A Government which is unwilling to bring the perpetrators of the worst financial crisis this country has ever experienced to heel because this Government and its cronies are responsible for the mess we are in.   All things being equal the people of this country should be witnessing bankers being dragged into our courts in handcuffs as we have seen in the US and not in sunny far-off shores sticking their fingers up at the people of Ireland while we struggle to keep bread on our tables;  struggle to keep our businesses operating because banks will not lend to SMEs;  watch our neighbours going to court and losing their over-priced houses because they are unable to service their mortgages as a result of losing their jobs; and watch the numbers of people losing their jobs going over the half million.  And all this as we watch widespread essential services being slashed.

Regularly the people of this country have expressed their anger at what has happened.  If people are as angry as they appear to be when they are on the Frontlineor on the Joe Duffy show then let's get organised and get them out and hit them where it hurts them most, at the ballot box. – Yours, etc,
