Sir, The news has been belatedy revealed to the "Pew members of the Church of Ireland" that the General Synod plains to discuss and ratify the admission of children at a young age to the Sacrament of Communion.
As a confirmed member of the Church of Ireland I have no problem with this. If, however, this is passed and the child's first time of receiving Communion becomes a day of ceremony and great expenditure, I strongly oppose it. Ordinary Church of Ireland members, I believe, hold fast to the simplicity of church services and new innovations may not be welcomed. With regard to expenditure; members of our Church are already financially stretched in their giving. Each year, more and more is expected, such as with the introduction of clergy sabbaticals. - Yours etc.,
Rathard,
Limerick
