Brighter road users

Sir, – Motor vehicles with missing lights are as dangerous as bicycles with lights that have not had their batteries replaced since last summer.

While some drivers believe that strict regulations that exist to ensure motor vehicles do not dazzle other road users therefore allow them to drive with missing lights, it is important that all road users maintain their modes of transport.

And might I appeal to all road users to maintain their tyres to the relevant standard? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – As a daily commuter on my bicycle, I can confirm that there are indeed many risks and dangers to be negotiated on the streets of our capital. However, the bright lights of safety conscious cyclists most definitely is not one of them.

More than any other factor, being seen ensures that you stay alive. Surely Kevin McPartlan (February 13th) can appreciate the overriding importance of that. The Road Safety Authority and An Garda Síochána certainly do.

So to my fellow cyclists, I say get those high-vis vests on, switch on your beams front and rear and make like a Christmas tree on two wheels. – Yours, etc,
