Madam, - Niall Murphy (December 3rd) questions Bono's involvement in campaigning for the reduction in the price of AIDS medicines, given the apparent incompatibility with his own career in the record industry, and the inflated prices of CDs.
I'm not sure if Mr Murphy realises the stark difference between the two cases. Nobody is forced to buy a CD. These are luxury items which people with money can buy if they choose. If they can't afford it nobody is going to die.
Mr Murphy should appreciate that he has the luxury of being able to complain about CD prices.
Bono's worthy cause and work shouldn't be trivialised through such comparisons. - Yours, etc.,
