Madam, – I greatly appreciate the excellent article by Jane Powers in the Saturday magazine (June 6th) about the swarm of bees which Paul Cox collected from her garden. Equally appreciated was the article (“Things are buzzing at Dublin restaurant” on May 23rd) about John Killian performing the same public-spirited service in the city of Dublin. However, I should like to point out that bees are a protected species and that it is illegal to destroy them. Unfortunately neither of your articles made this clear.
Beekeepers are usually willing to collect swarms of honey bees. A list of contacts is available on the FIBKA website: www.irishbeekeeping.ie. – Yours, etc,
