Sir, - I read with interest your front-page story (October 15th) of the refugee couple, who were unable to open a bank account and then won the Lotto.
In June I moved to Dublin from England and experienced similar problems trying to open a bank account, though I have yet to win the Lotto.
Despite both my husband and I having banking references from the bank in England where we had been customers for over seven years, another reference relating to my business bank account, a letter from my accountant, a letter of employment and a copy of my contract, passports, a driver's licence and a receipt for the deposit on our apartment, we were unable to open a bank account.
We only succeeded through a personal introduction to a bank manager. This seems wrong. - Yours, etc.,
Madeline Close, Pearse Street, Dublin 2.
