Madam, – The headline claim that “it is 25 years since [McGuinness’s] Baglady was staged in Dublin” (Artscape, August 7th) is not accurate: encouraged by the very warm response to a special production of the play for delegates attending the Conference of the International Association for the Study of Irish Literatures, presented at St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra in July, 2001, Imelda McDonagh, the actress who played Baglady, and I, as director, inaugurated a new, small company, Imp Productions, under whose auspices Baglady was presented as part of the fringe at the Dublin Theatre Festival in 2002. It was given a “four-star” review by Susan Conley in The Irish Times. Subsequently, it played in Wexford, Dundalk and Arklow: when it played in Dalkey Arts Centre, it was seen and admired by the author.

Imp Productions is still in existence, presenting most recently, Tom Kempinski’s Duet for One at Wexford Opera House. – Yours, etc,
