Madam, – All this talk of 1979 and our categorisation with Algerians, Turks and American Blacks reminds me that my last electoral act in the UK – as an Irish citizen – was to vote against the first election of Margaret Thatcher (State Papers, December 30th).
It’s up there with my vote against the first (and second) election of George W Bush, every election of Charles J Haughey and my votes for my namesake and for Obama.
Even, or indeed, particularly, with the benefit of hindsight, je ne regrette rien. – Yours, etc,
