A chara, – I would like to thank you for running the story highlighting the plight of Xsil employees , who since October last year, have been left without wages owed to us, and some of us are still waiting to receive statutory redundancy (“Xsil staff await pay after sale of company assets”, Business This Week, May 15th).

I was left stranded in Shanghai when the company refused to pay wages, having been sent there a week beforehand by management on company business. I did not know what was happening, and eventually had to wait around Shanghai International Airport hoping to get a flight home using only air-miles. I have since had to emigrate to find work, and I doubt very much that I will be able to live in Ireland for some years.

This saga has affected 44 people and their families in a very real way. I am young, and I do not have any dependants, but many of my colleagues faced a very difficult Christmas period, and we have all been struggling since.

It is comforting to know that our story has not been forgotten amid all the tales woe and despair that are now prevalent in Ireland. Thank you again. – Is mise,

Madam, – I read with great appreciation John Collins’s article regarding the deplorable treatment of the Xsil staff that are still owed their last month’s salary, holiday pay and payment in lieu of notice, despite sales of assets and intellectual property totalling $2.3 million.

This seems to be a sad reflection of what’s happening in Ireland today. The fat cats slink away while the little guys take the hit. – Yours, etc,
