Sir, – Dr Claire Healy (August 3rd) gave a really interesting overview of refugees in Ireland, yet she ignored the over 250 German-speaking exiles who fled Nazism and found a home in Ireland from 1933. Readers who are interested in this much-ignored era of Ireland’s refugee history should read German-speaking Exiles in Ireland 1933-1945 (Amsterdam, Rodopi, 2006), edited by Gisela Holfter. This book gives an overview of policy at that time, while examining the lives of those who fled Nazism and settled in Ireland for the duration of the war and beyond. – Yours, etc,
