Sir, - I am a 15-year-old Irish citizen. I have always been proud of my culture, of being Irish. Until recently, I believed that Irish people were very tolerant and kind. Of course, I cannot speak for everyone. Now I am disgusted at how Irish citizens, my natives, are treating refugees.
People seem to be afraid Ireland will turn into a place like London, a big melting-pot, and that there will be no more Irish culture left. I cannot understand this fear. How is mixing with someone of a different colour or culture going to take away our heritage? It can only broaden our minds and hearts to new things and also teach others about our culture.
I believe we are all equal. We all belong to one race, the human race. So until we set the record straight - when everyone is not said only to be equal but where we are all treated as equals - this world is a perfect example of a failure. - Yours, etc.
