Sir, - As a former pupil of the future archbishop when he taught me English and Latin in Blackrock College, and as someone who knew him very well, I find the suggestion that he spent his Sunday afternoons drinking whiskey in Drumcondra pubs about as credible as, say, the notion of Ian Paisley regularly attending Sunday Mass. It certainly calls into question the veracity of many of the other equally unsupported but much more serious allegations in John Cooney's work. - Yours, etc.,
Dr O. Glaser, Thalassa, Baily, Dublin.
