Sir, - Your paper recently reported that TCD's student residence on the corner of Westland Row and Pearse Street received an RIAI architectural award. It may deserve this during office hours but for the rest of the time it has opened up an appalling vista.
Twentyfoot high roller shutter doors have no place on a city streetscape and are more appropriate to an industrial estate. They are a violent visual affront to the citizens of Dublin and detract from the very commendable renewal work undertaken by the university in the city centre.
I think that TCD should go back to the drawing board. Yours, etc.,
