Madam, - Allow me to express my dismay at the allegations in your issue of May 23rd that Ms Hanim Gül was questioned and intimidated at the Turkish Embassy. Please be informed that none of these allegations are true.
She was brought to the embassy last week for the issuance of travel documents in accordance with the normal procedure.
Ms Hanim Gül was asked only basic questions and she informed the Embassy that she came to Ireland in 2002 with her two sons to attend a wedding and subsequently decided to stay. She also confirmed that she was aware of the deportation order.
Ms Gül was finally asked whether she was in want or in need of anything with which the Embassy can help. She thanked and said no.
Ms Hanim Gül and her sons were treated kindly while they were at the Embassy. - Yours, etc,
KORHAN KÜNGERÜ, Third Secretary in charge of consular affairs, Embassy of the Republic of Turkey, Dublin.
