A chara, – Thanks to the media the truth is out about the latest Willie O’Dea saga. Definitely “conduct unbecoming an officer” I would say – a firing offence.

I received a High Court finding of “unfair procedures” against the Army in 2005 in relation to the conduct of inquiry by the judge advocate general into my forcible retirement. My 10-year struggle through the courts was covered by your paper.

Hoping, after 40 years, to get fairness in my case, I wrote Mr O’Dea for help in redressing the wrong done to me, but he ignored my pleas.

The quality of mercy was not strained to give me justice, thus I do not regret his being pushed, rather than falling on his sword.

Of course the ex-Minister’s victimhood could not compare to mine as I was a mere soldier without any rights. When a High Court finding can be ignored I guess it is only a matter of time before courts are abolished altogether.
