Madam, – I would like to applaud the Minister for Arts, Martin Cullen, for his support for the idea that the Abbey Theatre should be moved to the GPO (Front page, December 12th).
In this time of great economic difficulty for our country, it gives us the opportunity to destroy two of our cultural icons for the cost of destroying only one. On a related matter, I deplore, albeit at some 44 years distance, the decision by some republican elements to blow up Nelson Pillar. It would have made an arresting and highly visible box-office. – Yours, etc,
